Travel Restrictions Flying from the UK
03 July 2007 - Latest Update
Due to additional security following Saturday's terrorist incident at Glasgow Airport, additional security measures are in place at airports across the UK. Dropping off and picking-up in front of the airport is restricted. BAA strongly recommends that passengers use public transport to get to the airport. Passengers using private cars will find it more convenient to use short term car parks to gain access to airport terminals. www.baa.com
Security requirements at UK airports
The following is a guide to the security requirements for all passengers departing from UK airports and also provides some advice that will help passengers pass through the security search point as quickly as possible.
One item of cabin baggage per passenger
Each passenger is restricted to carrying only one item of cabin baggage through the airport search point with a maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. Other bags, such as handbags, may be carried within the single item of cabin baggage.
Carrying Liquids
Where possible, put all liquid items in your hold baggage. This includes water and other drinks, creams, sprays, pastes and gels.
Passengers can take some liquids such as toiletries including through airport security provided they are no bigger than 100ml each.
All individual liquid items must fit comfortably into one transparent, re-sealable bag no larger than 1 litre or approximately 20cm x 20cm (about the size of a small freezer bag).
The bag must fit into the one permitted piece of cabin baggage (a maximum of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm), but passengers will be asked to present the bag separately when going through airport security.
Liquids of any amount can still be carried in luggage checked into the aircraft hold.
